Jack had his 2nd dental surgery yesterday. We now have four bright white, perfect (and freakin' EXPENSIVE) new teeth! He had 2 put on this past Feb, which yellowed for some reason. So with these other two new ones, they replaced the old and colored matched all four. Hopefully we are done with dental surgery for him.
It is always so hard to watch them put him under. Scary. He was really brave this time, again. It took him almost 2 minutes to fall asleep though. He really fought it and the anesthesiologist took it really slow. He was doped up on Demerol for the remainder of the day, which always provides Connor and I with some good entertainment. NOT that we would be making fun of Jack or anything! :)
On to Connor... not so good. He has a really bad cavity in the back of his mouth. His old dentist new it was there, but kept saying it was small and we'd watch it. I just took him in for a cleaning (it's been about 9 mo since the last one). I took him to Jack's dentist whom I love. He x-rayed his mouth and said... "Um, Mrs. Quinn, Connor's tooth needs to come out in the back. The cavity is so big, I can't save the tooth." HUH? He showed me the x-rays, it is clearly almost the size of his tooth. It is too far to do a root canal and crown... but why would we since it is a baby tooth and it going to come out any way. So they are going to extract it and put in a spacer.
The dentist also told me why Connor has a big gap in his two front teeth. (These are his permanent teeth). He has an 'extra' tooth in between them. It is very large and goes way up into the roof of his mouth. It may or may not try to come down. But, he front teeth won't/can't shift together because this 'middle' tooth is block them. It needs to come out. But he doesn't recommend that until he is 10 or so. The tooth/bone is too big for the dentist to remove, so he will be referref to an Oral/Maxilofacial surgeon (or however you spell it). Then braces.
So, there you have it. I will be in debt to the dentist for at least another 5 years.
